Using highly concentrated energy, laser hair reduction targets hair follicles and emits pulses of light that stop the growth of the hair. The complete Laser Hair Reduction process requires a series of treatments, but results can be seen after the first treatment. Over the course of one to three weeks, the treated hair falls out. With every treatment, fewer and fewer hairs will grow back, leaving you with smooth skin. Often best results are achieved after 6-10 treatments with an annual maintenance touch up.

Yes, the contraindications for Laser Hair Reduction include:

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Recent sun exposure (in the last 4 weeks) or use of self tanners
• Patients that have metal implants, a pacemaker or defibrillator
• Patients that have used retinol or chemical exfoliating products in the last 7 days
• Patients who have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last 6-12 months
• Patients with a history of skin cancer, especially malignant melanoma
• Patients with a history of autoimmune disease (HIV, hepatitis or Lupus)
• Patients with a history of Epilepsy or seizures
• Patients who have medical conditions that may affect wound healing
• Neurotoxin injections in the treatment area in the last 2 weeks
• Dermal fillers in treatment area in the last 30 days
• Patients that have experienced a previous adverse reaction to a Laser Hair Reduction treatment.

Post treatment you can expect the following:

• Little to no downtime (unless advanced settings are used)
• Small red areas may be present directly around individual hairs. This is Normal.
• Acne-prone patients may experience acne breakouts post treatment
• Typically treated hairs may fall out over a 7-21 days period. As the hair follicle dissipates you may remove the dead hairs before they fall out if you desire. The hair may also appear stunned and will not grow in length as before.

While some results may be almost immediate, your best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure as it takes this long for new collagen to generate. Results can last up to a year.

The number of treatments will depend on your hair and  your desired results. Your provider will discuss and customize a treatment for your individual needs. We recommend 6 to 10 treatments for optimal results. Sessions are spaced 6-8 weeks apart.

Complications, though rare, can occur and should be discussed and understood. The patient must understand the importance of the post care instructions, and that failure to comply may increase the potential for complications.

• Paradoxical Hair Growth (the stimulation of hair growth)
• Hypopigmentation (lightening of the skin) or hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin)
• Skin infection
• Allergic Reactions
• Short-term effects may include reddening, mild burning, temporary bruising, blistering or bleeding.
