Patients with a history of cold sores should be taking antiviral medications (valtrex) for 5 days starting on the day prior to treatment

To decrease the risk of bruising, we recommend avoiding the following for 3 days prior to your treatment (unless medically contraindicated):

Alcoholic beverages
NSAIDs (advil/ibuprofen/aspirin)
Herbal supplements: Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Garlic, Ginkgo, Ginseng

Any supplements or medication that increases the chances of blood thinning

We recommend pretreating the skin with nightly retinol for 30 days prior to treatment and discontinuing retinol 7 days prior to treatment.

Arrive to the office with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, lotions, creams or products prior to treatment.

Use a mild cleanser for 1-2 weeks (Cetaphil or product recommended by your provider) and a plain moisturizer (Cereve or ZO Hydrating Cream)

Do not pick, peel or rub treated areas as this may cause scarring. Aquaphor (or a product recommended by your provider) can be applied to dry areas.

Cool water compress or ice packs can be applied to the treated area if desired.

Arnica gel or tablets can be used to reduce bruising and swelling

Avoid vigorous exercise, heat, saunas, hot tubs, swimming pools and sweaty activities for 48 hours

Avoid natural sun exposure and tanning beds for 2 weeks post treatment

Yes, the contraindications for Halo include:

Recent sun exposure (in the last 2 weeks) or use of self tanners

Patients who have a history of abnormal response to sunlight

Patients who use photo-sensitizing medications or drugs

Patients who have used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the

Post treatment you can expect the following:

Mild redness (may feel like a sunburn) and swelling for
1 week

Textured skin, similar to fine sandpaper, known as MENDS (micro epidermal necrotic debris) that will appear between day 1-3 post treatment.

Acne-prone patients may experience acne breakouts post treatment

You will see initial results between 2-5 days after your treatment known as the “Halo glow” but skin will continue to improve over time. Patients see the greatest improvement after 2-3 weeks followed by a dermal regeneration phase that continues to improve for months.

Results will last for years to come, but the continued aging of your face and the exposure to natural and artificial light will affect how long your results last.

The number of treatments will depend on your skin and your desired results. Your provider will discuss and customize a treatment for your individual needs. On average, patients will receive 1-2 aggressive treatments or have multiple “mini” or less aggressive treatments over a longer period of time.

Complications, though rare, can occur and should be discussed and understood. The patient must understand the importance of the post care instructions, and that failure to comply may increase the potential for complications.

Scarring, though rare, can occur following any intense light procedure.

Histamine/Hives: some patients develop raised urticaria similar to hives. This irritation usually subsides in a few hours.

Pigmentary changes: hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation may occur. There is a higher risk in darker skin types.

Swelling around the eyes and bridge of nose may occur immediately after a Halo treatment and may remain for 24-48 hours.
