Sculptra (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) works gradually over time and creates a youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging.

Collagen is a key structural component of smooth, healthy-looking skin. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases. This is when you may start to notice the formation of wrinkles.

Sculptra is intended for use in people with healthy immune systems as a treatment that is recommended of up to four injection sessions that are scheduled about three weeks apart. Results can last more than two years.

To decrease the risk of bruising, we recommend avoiding the following for 3 days prior to your treatment (unless medically contraindicated):

Alcoholic beverages
NSAIDs (advil/ibuprofen/aspirin)
Herbal supplements: Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, Garlic, Ginkgo, Ginseng

Any supplements or medication that increases the chances of blood thinning

No dental work for two weeks prior to your treatment.

If you have a history of any autoimmune and neurological diseases, a consultation is required with your provider prior to treatment.

Arrive to the office with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, lotions, creams or products prior to treatment.

Do not touch or apply make-up immediately following treatment

*Follow 5/5/5 Rule: Massage the treatment area for 5 times a day for 5 minutes for 5 days after treatment (it is very important to do this for optimal results and to avoid complications)

Tylenol or acetaminophen can be taken if experiencing mild tenderness/discomfort

Apply ice (gently with light pressure) 3-4 times per day
for swelling

Arnica gel or tablets can be used to reduce bruising
and swelling

Avoid alcohol or blood thinners for 24-48 hours

Avoid exercise, prolonged exposure to heat or sun, saunas and steam baths for 24 hours

Avoid dental work for 2 weeks

Do not receive additional skin treatments (lasers, microneedling, facial, etc) for 2-4 weeks depending on injection area.

What makes Sculptra different from other dermal fillers is that it gradually and subtly corrects facial wrinkles. This isn’t a quick-fix or an overnight miracle. Instead, Sculptra will give you long-lasting and subtle results that can last for more than two years, leaving you with a more natural-looking appearance without making you look like you’ve had work done. Of course, individual results may vary.

Yes, the contraindications for Sculptra include:

Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Allergies to any of the ingredients in Sculptra

Patients with a history of autoimmune diseases

Patients taking medications that interfere with blood coagulation

Patients that have had previous adverse reactions, oral/facial surgeries or negative filler or Sculptra outcomes may not be a candidate for treatment.

Post treatment you can expect the following:

Swelling that should subside in 72 hours

Tenderness/discomfort at injection sites

Bruising (for up to a week) at the injection site

Please allow 2 weeks for Sculptra to fully integrate into the tissue for final results.

After dermal filler treatment, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

Severe or unusual bruising in areas that were injected or not injected.

Blanching (white/grey hue) of the skin in areas that were injected or not injected.

Significant swelling or pain in areas that were injected.

Injection site looks significantly red, hot or tender.

Small or large bumps under the skin that can sometimes be noticed when pressing on the treated area.

If you are experiencing a fever post treatment

Contact our office immediately if you notice these symptoms at 617-658-3421. For a true aesthetic emergency after office hours, contact Ashley Hilmes at 509-714-6889 or for a medical emergency, please call 911.

You can expect noticeable results that emerge gradually over the next few months following your treatment. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see immediate results or see “results” that seem to fade in a few days. Initially, the treatment area will look visually improved due to the Sculptra mixture injected (its a liquid) and swelling. A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before treatment.

The Sculptra Aesthetic regimen delivers its full effects with an average of three treatment sessions over the course of a few months. Because results happen gradually, you’ll see subtle, yet noticeable, results in the reduction of facial wrinkles and folds by comparing images before treatment and a couple months following treatment.
