Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are regenerative treatments prepared from a small sample of your own blood. Both concentrate platelets and naturally occurring growth factors that can be used to support the body’s healing and tissue-remodeling processes.
At Vega Vitality, PRP and PRF may be used as injectable treatments or incorporated into other aesthetic procedures, including microneedling. Depending on the treatment area and your goals, these therapies may be used to support collagen production, improve skin quality and texture, and promote natural-looking rejuvenation.
Although PRP and PRF are closely related, differences in how the blood is processed result in different concentrations and fibrin characteristics. Your Vega Vitality provider will determine which approach is most appropriate based on the treatment being performed and your individual goals.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) are both regenerative treatments prepared from a small sample of your own blood. Both concentrate platelets and naturally occurring growth factors that can support tissue repair, collagen production, and skin rejuvenation. The primary difference lies in how the blood is processed and the resulting composition of the treatment.
PRP is a liquid platelet concentrate typically prepared using an anticoagulant to prevent the blood from clotting during processing. Its liquid consistency makes it versatile for treatments such as injections, microneedling, and hair restoration.
PRF is prepared without an added anticoagulant and allows a natural fibrin network to form. This fibrin matrix can help hold platelets and growth factors within the treatment area and provides a scaffold that supports a more gradual release of platelet-derived growth factors.
Neither treatment is universally “better.” The choice between PRP and PRF depends on the treatment area, the procedure being performed, and your individual goals. Your Vega Vitality provider will recommend the most appropriate option as part of your personalized treatment plan.
PRF Gel takes the regenerative concept a step further by creating a thicker, gel-like preparation that can provide subtle structural support in addition to the regenerative benefits associated with platelet- and fibrin-based treatments. This makes it particularly useful in areas where both skin quality and volume are concerns, such as the under-eye area.
Vega Vitality offers different autologous gel technologies depending on location, including EZ Gel™ in Boston and SELPHYL®/Selphyller Gel™ in Cary, NC. Learn more on our PRF Gel treatment page.
